Starting a podcast to grow your business

This year I am going all-in on audio. Why? Because that’s what I prefer and what comes easy to me. Audio is very direct and it's very faithful, the voice is something that you cannot fake. This was one of the reasons why I started my podcast Christine Means Business. And along this podcasting journey, I discovered the true magic of podcasting and the power it has in growing your business.

This was the topic that I discussed with my first guest of 2022, Kevin Palmieri. Kevin and his partner Alan are the hosts of Next Level University, a podcast helping you reach the next level in your life, love, health and wealth.

Important steps in podcasting

When it comes to podcasting, one of the most important things is consistency. Even after 842 episodes, Kevin and Alan still record 7 episodes per week. They batch them and record 6 each Monday and they record their guest episode later in the week.

The next thing is to focus on improving yourself as a podcaster. If you're not good yet, that's okay. But if you feel like you don’t have enough listeners, maybe you're just not worth listening to yet. Go back to the drawing board and

  • study speaking
  • study interviewing
  • study pauses
  • study tonality

A podcast is a presentation, it’s a performance, it's an art and it’s challenging. So, it’s important that you focus on improving yourself with each new episode.

Find your Niche

You probably won’t be the next Joe Rogan, so niche down and make sure that you own whatever space you have, because you want to be known for what you're the best at.

Your Business and your Podcast

Now, when it comes to your business, Kevin believes that if you want to go digital and you don't have a podcast, you're making a decent-sized mistake. Somebody following you on social media is valuable, but there's nothing like somebody listening to an hour, two hours, ten hours of your content per week. That deepens and strengthens the relationship at a level that you don't understand.

Finally, Kevin shares that your podcast is the input; how many pieces of output can you get from that podcast? A podcast will be recorded on audio and on video. It gets uploaded to YouTube, it gets cut into teaser clips, it gets turned into a blog post. Those 30 minutes of conversation can easily be turned into 12 pieces of content. So it's not just a podcast, it's free advertisement; it's building relationships, it's marketing; it’s building different connections and collaboration. It’s the way of the future because more and more things are going audio.
